Ohio Flame Round Log Grate in natural steel sitting inside a steel fire bowl

A Fire Sitting in Its Own Ashes Is a Fire Fighting for Air.

The Round Log Grate lifts your wood off the floor of the bowl so air reaches it from underneath. Ash drops through ½-inch radial openings, embers stay up in the burn, and the fire keeps its draft instead of choking on last night's leftovers.

What You're Actually Buying

Three Pieces, One Job: Keep the Fire Up and the Ash Down

This is not a rack you drop in and hope stays put. The Round Log Grate arrives as a matched set — the ¼-inch steel grate itself, a blocker plate to control what falls through the rain drain, and a centering tee that holds the whole thing in the middle of the bowl where you put it.

Heavy ¼" USA Steel

Built from quarter-inch American steel rather than thin rod stock, so the grate carries a full load of hardwood without sagging in the middle over time.

½" Radial Ash Openings

Openings run radially outward, sized to let fine ash fall away while holding burning logs and larger embers up in the airflow.

4" Blocker Plate Included

A 4-inch diameter plate that closes off the rain drain in your fire bowl, so ash collects in the pit instead of falling straight through onto the patio below.

Centering Tee Included

A 3/16-inch thick centering tee keeps the grate seated in the middle of the bowl so it does not drift toward one wall as logs shift and burn down.

Four Sizes to Match Your Bowl

From a 14-inch small for compact 20 to 24-inch pits up to a 26-inch extra large sized for 42 to 48-inch bowls.

Natural Steel Patina

The natural steel finish develops an iron oxide patina and darkens with use, weathering in step with the Ohio Flame bowl it sits inside.

The Signature Detail

Why the Blocker Plate Matters More Than It Sounds

Ohio Flame fire bowls are built with a rain drain in the floor — the reason water never pools in the bottom. It is also, once you start burning regularly, the reason a fine grey trail of ash ends up on the pavers under your fire pit.

The included 4-inch blocker plate lets you decide. Leave it out and ash falls straight through with the water. Drop it over the drain and the ash stays in the bowl to be scooped out on your schedule, while the grate above keeps that ash bed away from your burning wood. Two settings, no tools, and you can change your mind between burns.

Plate in

Ash collects in the bowl and gets cleaned out when you choose. Nothing falls onto the surface below the pit.

Plate out

Ash and rainwater clear through the drain on their own. Less scooping, at the cost of some fallout underneath.

Choose Your Size

Match the Grate to Your Fire Bowl Diameter

Measure the interior diameter of your fire pit bowl and find it in the right-hand column. The grate should sit with clearance around it, not wedge against the wall.

Size Grate Diameter Weight Fits Fire Pit Diameter
Small 14" 9 lbs 20" to 24"
Medium 18" 15 lbs 26" to 30"
Large 22" 22 lbs 32" to 38"
X Large 26" 31 lbs 42" to 48"
Between two sizes? A 40-inch bowl falls in the gap between the Large and X Large ranges. Call 833-777-2962 with your measurement and we will tell you which one seats properly rather than guessing at it.

Honest Guidance

Is the Log Grate Worth Adding?

A strong match if you...

  • Burn wood regularly and are tired of raking ash before every fire
  • Notice your fire slowing down or smoking more as the ash bed builds
  • Want control over whether ash falls through the bowl's rain drain
  • Own a round fire bowl between 20 and 48 inches in interior diameter
  • Want an accessory in the same American steel as the pit it sits in

Consider another option if you...

  • Run a gas fire feature — a log grate has no role in a burner-fed pit
  • Have a square or rectangular fire pit; this grate is round by design
  • Burn only occasionally and never build up enough ash to notice
  • Need a cooking surface — this holds fuel, not food
  • Have a bowl smaller than 20 inches or larger than 48 inches inside
What arrives: one (1) Round Log Grate in your selected size, one (1) 4-inch blocker plate, and one (1) 3/16-inch centering tee, all in natural steel. Free shipping on all orders.
Common Questions

Round Log Grate FAQ

What size do I need for my fire pit?
Measure the interior diameter of your bowl and match it to the fitment column above: 14-inch grate for 20 to 24-inch pits, 18-inch for 26 to 30-inch, 22-inch for 32 to 38-inch, and 26-inch for 42 to 48-inch pits. If your measurement falls in a gap between ranges, call 833-777-2962 before ordering.
What does the blocker plate actually do?
Ohio Flame fire bowls have a rain drain in the floor. The 4-inch blocker plate sits over that drain so ash stays in the bowl instead of falling through onto the surface below. Leaving it out lets ash and rainwater clear on their own. It is removable, so you can run it either way.
Why does the grate need a centering tee?
As logs burn down and shift, an unanchored grate can walk toward one side of the bowl and sit unevenly against the wall. The included 3/16-inch centering tee holds it in the middle of the bowl, which keeps the airflow even and the load balanced.
Will it fit fire pits from other brands?
It fits any round fire bowl whose interior diameter falls in the listed ranges — the grate is not keyed to Ohio Flame geometry. The blocker plate is sized for a 4-inch rain drain, which is the Ohio Flame configuration, so its usefulness depends on your bowl's drain. Send us your measurements and we will check it with you.
Does a log grate really make a difference?
It changes where air comes from. Wood sitting flat in an ash bed only draws air from the sides and top; lifted on a grate, it draws from underneath as well. That underside airflow is what keeps a wood fire burning cleanly rather than smoldering as ash accumulates.
How do I clean it?
Let the grate cool completely, lift it out by the frame, and scoop the ash bed from the bowl. The ½-inch openings clear on their own as ash falls through during the burn, so the grate itself rarely needs more than a knock against the side of the pit.
Will the steel warp from the heat?
The grate is cut from ¼-inch plate rather than thin rod, which is the reason for the weight. Heavy stock like that holds its shape under repeated heat cycling far better than a lightweight rack, and the natural steel finish patinas rather than scaling off.
