A Fire Sitting in Its Own Ashes Is a Fire Fighting for Air.
The Round Log Grate lifts your wood off the floor of the bowl so air reaches it from underneath. Ash drops through ½-inch radial openings, embers stay up in the burn, and the fire keeps its draft instead of choking on last night's leftovers.
This is not a rack you drop in and hope stays put. The Round Log Grate arrives as a matched set — the ¼-inch steel grate itself, a blocker plate to control what falls through the rain drain, and a centering tee that holds the whole thing in the middle of the bowl where you put it.
Built from quarter-inch American steel rather than thin rod stock, so the grate carries a full load of hardwood without sagging in the middle over time.
Openings run radially outward, sized to let fine ash fall away while holding burning logs and larger embers up in the airflow.
A 4-inch diameter plate that closes off the rain drain in your fire bowl, so ash collects in the pit instead of falling straight through onto the patio below.
A 3/16-inch thick centering tee keeps the grate seated in the middle of the bowl so it does not drift toward one wall as logs shift and burn down.
From a 14-inch small for compact 20 to 24-inch pits up to a 26-inch extra large sized for 42 to 48-inch bowls.
The natural steel finish develops an iron oxide patina and darkens with use, weathering in step with the Ohio Flame bowl it sits inside.
Ohio Flame fire bowls are built with a rain drain in the floor — the reason water never pools in the bottom. It is also, once you start burning regularly, the reason a fine grey trail of ash ends up on the pavers under your fire pit.
The included 4-inch blocker plate lets you decide. Leave it out and ash falls straight through with the water. Drop it over the drain and the ash stays in the bowl to be scooped out on your schedule, while the grate above keeps that ash bed away from your burning wood. Two settings, no tools, and you can change your mind between burns.
Ash collects in the bowl and gets cleaned out when you choose. Nothing falls onto the surface below the pit.
Ash and rainwater clear through the drain on their own. Less scooping, at the cost of some fallout underneath.
