Tagwood BBQ · BBQ26SS

An Argentine fire kitchen on one stainless cart

The BBQ26SS is Tagwood's XL freestanding Santa Maria grill: a 304 stainless steel cart built around a firebrick-lined brasero, a wheel-adjustable main grate, a clamp grill and four more cooking surfaces. You burn wood or charcoal down to embers, move them where you want them, and control heat by distance rather than dampers.

Flames rising from the stainless steel brasero of a Tagwood BBQ26SS beside the main grate and warming roof

01 · Brasero and firebricks

Fire on one side, food on the other

Wood and charcoal light quickly in the stainless brasero, which keeps the open flame apart from the cooking area. As the fire breaks down, use the included shovel and coal rake to pull embers under the grate: a deep bed for a hard sear, a thin one for slow cooking. Keep feeding the brasero and you have fresh embers ready all afternoon.

Firebricks line the walls and base to hold heat, spread it evenly and shield the outer shell. A drain lets rain and wash water escape so moisture never sits around the bricks.

02 · Elevation system

Heat control is a turn of the wheel

Turn the elevation wheel and the main grate travels from 2.5" to 20" above the coals. Lower it for intense radiant heat and a deep crust; raise it to slow things down and finish gently. The lift system makes one-handed adjustments easy, even with a fully loaded grate.

Elevation system: Right side vs Frontal

Right side (standard)The wheel sits on the right end of the grill, and you set a manual lock to hold the grate at the height you want (turn the wheel counterclockwise for the lock to engage). The natural choice for a freestanding cart on an open patio, where you have room to stand and turn the wheel beside the grill.
Frontal elevationThe wheel moves to the front of the grill, facing the cook, and an internal lock holds the grate automatically the moment you stop turning. Choose it when the right side will be closed in by a wall, a railing or an adjoining counter, or when the grill sits in an island run and every control needs to be reachable from the front.

Both layouts raise and lower the same grate through the same range. Tagwood does not publish a separate clearance figure for the wheel, so leave open working space on the side where it sits and follow the installation clearances in the BBQ26SS manual.

Cook setting a whole lamb in the Tagwood BBQ26SS clamp grill over embers raked from the brasero

03 · Clamp grill

Whole cuts, cooked the gaucho way

The 23" x 23.5" clamp grill locks a butterflied lamb, a rack of ribs or a whole chicken between two stainless grids and holds it beside the fire. It rotates 360 degrees and sets at seven angles, so you can face the bone side to the heat first, then turn and tilt the cut as the cook moves along instead of wrestling it on a flat grate.

04 · Five cooking zones

Room for the whole asado at once

2,600 sq. in. across five surfaces: the 33.75" x 26.75" main grate, a height-adjustable secondary grate over the brasero for searing above live flame, the clamp grill, an interchangeable griddle for vegetables and provoleta, and a roof grill overhead that keeps finished food warm. Stainless S-hooks hang chorizo and peppers in the smoke.

Steaks, sides and the slow cuts cook side by side, so everything reaches the table together.

Cook at a freestanding Tagwood BBQ26SS on a gravel patio, with firewood on the lower shelf, the side table open and swivel casters below

05 · Cart, side table and wheels

A cart that works as hard as the grill

The stainless base carries a lower shelf for firewood and tools, a folding side table on the left for prep and plating (folded, the grill narrows from 91.5" to 78" wide), a built-in bottle opener, and swivel casters with brakes so you can roll all 657 lb into place and lock it there.

Wheel options

StandardHeavy-duty 6" swivel casters, two with brakes. Right for smooth, level ground such as concrete, pavers or a deck, and for a grill that mostly stays put.
8" x 2" SS304304 stainless steel brackets with a bakelite core, built for heat and frequent use. The larger diameter rolls more easily over paver gaps and patio transitions, and the stainless hardware stands up to moisture, grease and regular wash-downs.
8" x 3" Heavy DutyA wide 3" (75 mm) tread on a PP core with steel brackets and a brake. Made for grass, dirt and gravel, where the wider wheel spreads the weight and keeps the cart steady.
