Why It Works

Engineered heat, not just fire

Howl R4 MKii portable propane fire pit lit, with flame rising and radiant tubes glowing
01 — Radiant Heat

Twin radiant tube burners

Two radiant tubes glow hot and release infrared heat — the same kind of warmth that comes off wood coals. Infrared warms your body directly instead of heating the air around you, so you feel it even when the air is cold and moving.

02 — Real Flame

A separate open-flame burner

A dedicated A-Flame burner throws a tall, open flame for the look and feel of a traditional campfire. You get the ambiance of fire and the directed warmth of radiant heat from one unit — not a compromise between the two.

03 — Built to Travel

Straps to the tank and rides with you

The frame folds flat and straps directly to a 20 lb propane tank, so the unit and its fuel travel as one stable load. Built from 304 stainless steel, aircraft-grade aluminum, and brass, and assembled in Colorado — at 27 lbs it packs into a hard travel case and moves to the next spot with you.

Note: Strap and Tank Not Included.

How It Works

From cold camp to warm in three steps

1

Connect

Attach the included 8-foot regulator hose to a standard 20 lb propane tank. The hose ships in the box; the tank and strap are sold separately.

2

Light

Fold out the legs, open the valve, and light the burners. The radiant tubes and open flame come up to temperature quickly.

3

Warm Up

Settle in. Radiant tubes push directed infrared heat toward you while the open flame handles the campfire ambiance.

The Difference

Against an ordinary propane fire pit

Ordinary Propane Fire Pit

  • Heats the air, which rises and drifts out of camp
  • Open flame struggles and blows around in wind
  • Often leaves a fire ring, ash, and scorched ground
  • Decorative warmth — better for looks than cold nights

Howl Campfires Fire Pit

  • Infrared warms your body directly, not just the air
  • Concealed air intake keeps the system steady in wind
  • No fire ring and no ash — leaves the ground clean
  • Built for cold-weather use at any altitude

Good to Know

Common questions

How does it perform in strong wind?

The radiant burner's air intake is concealed, so the heating system stays steady in heavy wind. The open flame has a wind screen that protects the base of the flame from strong gusts, and if it does blow out, it relights from the radiant burner's exhaust.

Does it still work at high altitude?

Yes. The radiant burner draws in the air it needs for combustion regardless of air density, so it produces clean, complete combustion at low and high elevations alike.

What happens if it rains or snows?

The burners are designed to drain, so they shed rain and snow. After wet weather they light right back up. If you get overnight snowfall, brush it off the unit and light it.

What's included, and what do I need to add?

An 8-foot regulator hose is included in the box. A 20 lb propane tank and a tank strap are sold separately, since most buyers already own a tank or prefer to source one locally.

Can I use it during a burn ban?

This unit is laboratory-tested and UL-certified, and it is approved for use in many burn-ban regions across the US and Canada. Burn-ban rules vary by area and change over time, so always check your local restrictions before use.

How is it shipped?

Every order ships with free shipping, no minimum. Each unit is built to order in Colorado, and your production slot is reserved when you check out.
