The all-black Chief Series take on the proven BBQ18 platform. The Tagwood BBQ18SI is a heavy-duty freestanding Argentine-style grill that delivers the live-fire cooking experience of a true parrilla in a bold, blacked-out package. Built on a cold-rolled steel frame with an exclusive Chief Series black finish, with all food-contact surfaces crafted from 304 stainless steel.
Simple, bold, and built to last — the BBQ18SI is the right grill for cooks who want the Chief Series aesthetic, the cooking performance of a real Argentine grill, and a complete backyard grilling station out of the box.
The BBQ18SI uses round main grates with two preset height positions, manually adjusted by lifting the grates with hooks. Set the grate at the lower position (4.5") closer to the coal bed for direct, high-heat searing on steaks, chops, and chorizo — or raise it to the upper position (6.5") for slightly slower cooking and more forgiving heat on whole chickens, ribs, and vegetables.
This is a deliberately simpler system than the wheel-crank elevation found on the BBQ03SS and larger Tagwood models. Fewer moving parts, fewer things that can fail over years of use, and a faster learning curve for cooks new to live-fire grilling.
The main grilling area measures 32.25" x 17.25" — 556 square inches of primary cooking surface, enough for a family or a small dinner party. Add the optional secondary grate over the firebox to expand to 713 sq. in. total cooking area, with a separate zone for warming bread, finishing vegetables, or holding sides while proteins cook on the main grate.
The gaucho-style firebox is lined with refractory firebricks along the bottom and sidewalls. The firebricks buffer heat transfer to the steel frame, distribute heat more evenly across the cooking surface, and extend fuel burn time by retaining heat in the brick mass. The firebox burns both hardwood and charcoal — run pure lump for clean high-heat searing, run oak or hickory splits for traditional Argentine asado flavor, or combine both.
A front drawer pulls out for clean ash management between cooks, and a built-in drain system keeps moisture from pooling inside the firebox during outdoor storage.
Every surface that touches food on the BBQ18SI is made from 304 stainless steel — the main grates, the optional griddle, the meat hooks, the shovel, and the poker. 304 is the same restaurant-grade material used in commercial kitchens because it resists corrosion, cleans easily, and holds up to direct fire exposure.
The BBQ18SI ships with everything you need to start cooking: a top lid for covered cooking and weather protection, a front drawer for ash management, four swivel casters for easy repositioning between cooking sessions, integrated tool hook holders, a built-in bottle opener, and a shovel and poker with mounting bracket.

The BBQ18SI's frame is built from cold-rolled steel, which — like all grills made from this material — is prone to rusting over time, especially in the firebox and other high-heat areas. This is more common in regions with high humidity.
Due to the nature of this material, the grill may develop:
These are natural and expected characteristics, not defects, and do not affect the performance or structural integrity of the grill.
To help preserve your grill, we recommend periodically sanding affected areas with fine sandpaper and applying a high-temperature, rust-preventive paint.
Please note: Surface rust, oxidation, heat discoloration, and normal wear are not covered under warranty, as they are inherent to the material and use conditions.
