The Tagwood BBQ12SI delivers the full Beast-series experience — six independent cooking zones, 2,000+ sq. in. of total cooking area, and a 360°-rotating clamp grill — at a more accessible price point than the all-stainless BBQ12SS. The cold-rolled steel frame keeps the cost down, while every food-contact surface (grates, griddle, clamp grill, warming racks, and meat hooks) is built from the same 304 stainless steel used on the BBQ12SS. Identical cooking performance, identical food-safety profile, lower entry price.

Why Choose the Tagwood BBQ12SI Beast Series Santa Maria Grill
  • 2,000+ sq. in. Across Six Independent Cooking Zones — Run the main grate, secondary grate, swivel grate, rear clamp grill, two-level warming rack, and vertical hooks simultaneously. Cook for a crowd without rotating food in and out.
  • 989 sq. in. Height-Adjustable Main Grate — Wheel-operated Santa Maria elevation system with a range of approximately 1.5" to 12.5" above the coal bed, giving you precise control from high-heat searing to slow indirect cooking.
  • 672 sq. in. Rear Clamp Grill with 360° Rotation — Independent height-adjustment mechanism separates it from the main grate so you can run a dedicated asador station for whole cuts, butterflied poultry, or fish while everything else cooks simultaneously below.
  • 460 sq. in. Two-Level Warming Rack — Tiered holding space at two different heights for staging finished cuts at different heat exposures.
  • Peaked Roof Smoking Hood — Traps rising smoke and redirects it across food on the upper racks before exhausting, adding a dedicated smoking zone to the platform.
  • Firebrick-Lined Brasero Firebox — Lined along the bottom and walls for heat retention and longevity. Front and rear access doors let you manage fuel from either side, and an integrated water drain prevents moisture accumulation.
  • 304 Stainless Steel Food-Contact Surfaces — Every grate, the griddle, the clamp grill, warming racks, hooks, and tools are 304 stainless — the same food-safe material used on the BBQ12SS.
  • Dual Fuel Compatibility — Burns both hardwood and charcoal, giving you full control over flavor and burn characteristics.

Tagwood BBQ12SI vs. BBQ12SS: Which Should You Choose?

The BBQ12SS is built with a full 304 stainless steel frame, offering maximum corrosion resistance with no frame maintenance required. The BBQ12SI uses a cold-rolled steel frame finished in high-heat resistant coating, which lowers the entry price while keeping every food-contact component — grates, griddle, clamp grill, warming racks, and hooks — in identical 304 stainless steel. Cooking performance, capacity, zone layout, and accessory compatibility are the same between both models. The trade-off on the BBQ12SI is periodic frame maintenance.

Cold-Rolled Steel Frame Care

The cold-rolled steel frame components may develop surface oxidation over time if the high-heat resistant coating becomes chipped or worn from use. Tagwood recommends light sanding of any affected areas and reapplication of high-temperature paint as needed to keep the frame in good condition. This maintenance is specific to the frame only — the 304 stainless steel food-contact surfaces do not require this care.
