An insert for the grill surround you build
The BBQ09SS is Tagwood's insert-style Santa Maria grill: the brasero, elevation system, grate and hooks in an open 304 stainless steel frame, so your builder can set it into masonry or a custom island. 656 sq. in. of primary cooking area plus a hanging zone.
01 · Insert installation
Your stonework, Tagwood's mechanics
At 117 lb, the insert sets into a wide range of surrounds; plan the opening from the dimensions and installation guide below. Firebricks are sold separately as Tagwood's 60-piece set. The installation guide calls for a level, heat-resistant base lined with firebricks and a centered drain hole for drainage.
02 · Brasero
The fire stays where you put it
The dedicated brasero lights wood or charcoal quickly and holds the flames beside the cooking area. As the wood burns down, rake the embers under the grate with the included shovel and poker, and keep the brasero fed for steady heat.
03 · Elevation system
Three ways to place the wheel
The main grate travels from 1" to 10" above the coals. Because an insert lives inside a wall, where the wheel goes matters more here than on any other Tagwood grill.
Elevation system: Right side vs Frontal
Both layouts raise and lower the same grate through the same range. Tagwood does not publish a separate clearance figure for the wheel; its installation guide asks you to allow sufficient clearance for crank wheel movement, so plan open space where the wheel sits and follow the BBQ09SS installation guide.
04 · Round or V-shape grates
Pick your grate
Round main grates give you 33.5" x 22" of cooking area and work with the interchangeable griddle. V-shape grates give you 33.5" x 20.5", with angled bars that drain grease to the collector box; they do not take the griddle. Both grill beautifully, so choose by how you like to cook.
05 · Hanging zone
Made for the long asado
S-shaped meat hooks above the grate add a hanging zone for chorizo, ribs and peppers, so the slow cuts and the quick ones share the same fire.
