The flagship of Tagwood's Beast collection. The BBQ22SS — known as The Silver Bullet XL — is the largest, most ambitious open-fire grill Tagwood produces. Dual 20" x 24" clamp grills. A massive main grate. A two-level warming rack. 3,200 square inches of total cooking surface. 1,167 pounds of restaurant-grade 304 stainless steel. This is the grill you build a backyard around.
If you cook for crowds of 30 or more, run a catering operation, host whole-animal asados, or simply want the most capable Santa Maria grill on the market regardless of price, this is the SKU. There is nothing larger in the Tagwood lineup. There is nothing larger in the Argentine grilling world, period.
The BBQ22SS is built for a specific buyer. Restaurants and commercial outdoor kitchens. Catering operations running multiple full-service events per month. Trophy backyard installations where the grill is the centerpiece of an entire outdoor entertaining space. Whole-hog and whole-lamb cooks. Asado-style events for 30 to 50+ guests on a single fuel bed.
If you cook mostly for a family of four to six, the BBQ23SS or BBQ26SS will serve you better and at a fraction of the footprint and price. The BBQ22SS is designed for the cook who refuses to be limited by capacity, ever.
Two 20" x 24" height-adjustable clamp grills, each rotating a full 360 degrees on its mount. This is the only Tagwood grill with two clamp grills, and it transforms what you can do over a single fuel bed.
Run two whole branzinos at once. Butterfly two whole chickens and rotate them in tandem. Lock two slabs of ribs between the panels and flip them in a single motion. Run an entire side of a hog on one clamp while the other handles a separate cut. The dual-clamp configuration is what separates The Beast from every other Santa Maria grill in production — including Tagwood's own XL flagships.
Round Main Grates (Santa Maria Elevation) — Your primary cooking surfaces, regulated by the wheel-operated Santa Maria elevation system. Drop the grates low to sear ribeyes, picanha, and tomahawks at high heat. Raise them up for slow-cooked whole roasts, racks of ribs, and indirect cooks. Heat control by distance — the way Argentine asadores have done it for over a century.
Dual 360° Rotating Clamp Grills (20" x 24" each) — The headline feature. Each clamp grill is height-adjustable and rotates a full 360 degrees, giving you two independent asador-style cooking stations on a single grill.
Two-Level Warming Rack — Mounted above the main cooking area as a tiered warming and holding zone. Top tier for finished cuts that need to rest. Bottom tier for items still finishing or holding at temp before service.
Roof Grid — An additional elevated grilling surface that benefits from rising heat without direct flame contact. Ideal for low-and-slow finishing, holding, and items that need gentle heat throughout a long cook.
Interchangeable Griddle — Swaps in for flat-surface cooking. Smash burgers, chorizo, peppers and onions, breakfast service, anything that needs a flat searing surface instead of an open grate.
S-Shape and Extended S-Shape Meat Hooks — For traditional Argentine-style vertical hanging. Hang ribs, sausages, whole chickens, or oversized cuts above the fire for indirect, fat-rendering cooks that no flat grate can replicate. The extended hooks accommodate larger cuts that won't fit on standard hooks.
3,200 square inches across the main grates, dual clamp grills, warming rack, and roof grid. For context, that's roughly 50% more cooking surface than the BBQ26SS XL flagship and over five times the cooking area of a standard freestanding grill. You can run a complete restaurant service on this single unit — proteins, sides, vegetables, finishing, and holding — without ever crowding a grate or compromising heat zones.
The Santa Maria elevation system is what separates this grill from any conventional setup. Instead of adjusting your fire to control temperature, you adjust the distance between your food and the fire by turning a hand wheel. Lower the grates for searing. Raise them for slow cooking. Park them mid-height for everything in between. Your hands never go near the coals, and you can change cooking temperatures in seconds without disturbing your fuel bed — even on a unit this size.
The brasero-style firebox is lined with firebricks along the bottom and interior walls. The firebricks buffer heat transfer to the steel structure (extending the working life of the firebox), they radiate heat back into the cooking chamber more evenly, and they let you burn longer with less fuel because heat is retained in the brick mass rather than escaping through the steel.
The firebox burns both hardwood and charcoal — Tagwood recommends lump charcoal and firewood for the best ember production and cleanest cooking experience. A built-in drain system keeps moisture from pooling inside the firebox during outdoor storage, which matters significantly on a 1,167-pound unit that won't be moving indoors for the off-season.
Every component of the BBQ22SS is manufactured from 304 stainless steel — frame, grates, firebox, clamp grills, warming rack, side table, and accessories. 304 is the same restaurant-grade material used in commercial kitchens and outdoor marine applications because it resists corrosion, cleans easily, and holds up to decades of direct fire exposure under heavy commercial use.
This is not a residential-grade build. The BBQ22SS is engineered to perform daily service in a restaurant or catering environment for years. In a backyard setting, it will outlast every other piece of equipment on the property.
A foldable side table provides prep and plating workspace when you need it and folds away when you don't. A built-in bottle opener, fire shovel, and poker round out the standard package.
The BBQ22SS measures 110.5"H x 83"W x 62.5"D and weighs 1,167 pounds. That's nearly 9 feet wide, over 9 feet tall, and over 5 feet deep — the footprint of a small vehicle, the weight of a grand piano. Plan accordingly:
