The freestanding flagship of the Tagwood XL lineup. The BBQ26SS is a 657-pound, 91.5-inch-wide live-fire monster that delivers everything the built-in BBQ28SS offers — same five cooking zones, same 360° rotating clamp grill, same Santa Maria elevation system — but on heavy-duty casters with a foldable side table, ready to roll into any patio or commercial outdoor space without an enclosure build.
This is the grill you buy when you want maximum cooking capacity, full asador-style control over every zone, and the freedom to position the grill wherever your cook calls for it.
The BBQ26SS is the right grill if you cook for crowds, host weekend asados for 15+ people, run a catering operation, or simply refuse to be bottlenecked by grate space ever again. It's built on the same platform as the built-in BBQ28SS but configured as a fully freestanding unit — heavy-duty casters, foldable side table, and zero installation work required. If you don't want to commit to an outdoor kitchen build but you still want flagship-level capacity, this is the SKU.
Main Santa Maria Grate (33.75" x 26.75") — Your primary cooking surface and one of the largest single grates Tagwood produces. The wheel-operated Santa Maria elevation system raises and lowers the grate over the coal bed by approximately 20 inches of vertical travel. Drop it low to sear ribeyes, picanha, and tomahawks at high heat. Raise it up for slow-cooked whole chickens, racks of ribs, brisket, and indirect cooks. Park it mid-height to hold steady temperatures across multi-hour cook sessions.
Height-Adjustable Secondary Grate (23.5" x 9") — Sits above the firebox and adjusts independently from the main grate. Run proteins on the main grate at one temperature while toasting bread, finishing vegetables, holding sides, or running a separate hot zone on the secondary grate at a completely different temperature. Two true zones, one fuel bed.
360° Rotating Clamp Grill — Two hinged grate panels lock food in place between them, and the entire assembly rotates a full 360 degrees on its mount for true asador-style control. This is what you use for whole branzino, butterflied chickens, slabs of ribs, vegetables that would otherwise fall through standard grates, and any cut you want to flip in one motion without picking up tongs.
Interchangeable Flat Griddle — Swaps in for flat-surface cooking when you need it. Smash burgers, chorizo, peppers and onions, breakfast service, anything that needs a flat searing surface instead of an open grate.
Roofing Grill — Mounted above the main cooking area as an elevated warming and holding surface. Perfect for keeping finished cuts warm, holding tortillas, or running a low-and-slow station that benefits from rising heat without direct flame contact.
Plus S-Shape Meat Hooks — For traditional Argentine-style vertical hanging of ribs, sausages, and whole cuts above the fire.
Total grilling space ranges from approximately 900 sq. in. when running a single zone up to 2,600 sq. in. with all five cooking surfaces in play simultaneously. That's headroom for a 21-pound turkey on the main grate, sausages and chorizo on the secondary, peppers and onions on the griddle, ribs hanging from the meat hooks, and finished cuts holding on the roofing grill — all at the same time, all over a single fuel bed.
This is what separates a Santa Maria grill from every other live-fire setup. Instead of adjusting your fire to control temperature, you adjust the distance between your food and the fire by turning a hand wheel. Lower the grate for searing. Raise it for slow cooking. Park it mid-height for everything in between. Your hands never go near the coals, and you can change cooking temperatures in seconds without disturbing your fuel bed.
With approximately 20 inches of vertical travel on the main grate, the BBQ26SS gives you one of the widest temperature ranges available on any Santa Maria grill at any size.
The brasero-style firebox is lined with firebricks along the bottom and interior walls. The firebricks do three things: they buffer heat transfer to the steel structure (extending the working life of the firebox), they radiate heat back into the cooking chamber more evenly, and they let you burn longer with less fuel because heat is retained in the brick mass rather than escaping through the steel.
The firebox burns both hardwood and charcoal — run pure lump for clean high-heat searing, run oak or hickory splits for traditional Argentine asado flavor, or combine both. A front door with handle gives you mid-cook fuel access without disturbing the cooking grates above. A built-in drain system prevents moisture from pooling inside the firebox during outdoor storage.
The entire BBQ26SS is manufactured from 304 stainless steel — body, grates, firebox, side table, and accessories. 304 is the same restaurant-grade material used in commercial kitchens and outdoor marine applications because it resists corrosion, cleans easily, and holds up to decades of direct fire exposure. Backed by Tagwood's 5-year limited manufacturer warranty.
Four heavy-duty 6-inch swivel casters (two with locking brakes) let you move 657 pounds of grill across a patio, lock it in position for service, and reposition for cleaning. A foldable side table provides prep and plating workspace when you need it and folds away when you don't. A built-in bottle opener, fire shovel, and poker with mounting bracket round out the package.
At 91.5 inches wide, 33 inches deep, 66.75 inches tall, and 657 pounds, the BBQ26SS is a centerpiece unit that needs a dedicated, level footprint on a reinforced patio, concrete pad, or commercial outdoor space. Verify load capacity if installing on a deck. Allow clearance behind the unit for the firebox door and on either side for safe operation around live fire and for wheel-crank elevation access.
