The Tagwood BBQ55SS is a 304 stainless steel height-adjustable secondary grate that adds 105 sq. in. of independent cooking surface to compatible Tagwood BBQ grills. The grate mounts above the firebox area and can be set at multiple height positions, giving the operator a separate cooking zone that runs at a different temperature than the main grate.

The practical value of a secondary grate in Argentine-style grilling is zone separation. While the main grate handles primary cooking tasks over the coal bed, the BBQ55SS sits directly above the brasero firebox where heat is most concentrated during the coal-building phase. This positioning creates a high-heat zone that's useful for items that benefit from intense direct heat in a smaller footprint — searing individual steaks, crisping sausage casings, or charring peppers — while the main grate operates at a different temperature for larger or slower items.

The height adjustment allows the operator to move the secondary surface closer to or further from the firebox depending on the cooking task. Dropped low, it functions as a close-proximity sear station. Raised higher, it becomes a gentler warming zone for items that need to hold temperature without additional browning.
