The Dude combines a 24-inch seamless plate-steel basin with a suspended tripod design for wood fires, charcoal cooking, and outdoor grilling. Its segmented tripod legs and tool-free setup make it easier to transport between the patio, campsite, tailgate, and other permitted outdoor spaces.
The basin hangs from an adjustable chain, allowing you to change the distance between the cooking surface and the heat. Raise or lower the basin to suit different cooking methods without bolts, permanent fasteners, or tools.
| Basin diameter | 24 in. |
| Basin weight | 35 lbs. |
| Tripod height | 60 in. |
| Tripod width | Approx. 70 in. |
| Compatible fuel | Wood or charcoal |
| Basin material | Seamless plate steel |
| Setup | No tools required |
The tripod, suspension chain, basin, and cooking components assemble without tools or permanent fasteners.
The single-point suspension system lets you raise or lower the basin to adjust the cooking distance. This provides a straightforward way to manage heat when grilling over wood coals or charcoal.
The elevated basin also creates the distinctive profile associated with Cowboy Cauldron fire pits. Radiant heat, sparks, and embers are still present during use, so the unit must be placed on an appropriate surface and operated according to the owner’s instructions and local fire regulations.
Build a wood fire directly inside the steel basin for outdoor warmth and gathering.
Place the cooking grill over an established bed of wood coals and adjust the chain height as needed.
Install the included charcoal grate to support charcoal beneath the cooking surface.
The Dude is the most compact model in the Cowboy Cauldron lineup. The larger models provide progressively wider basins and additional cooking space.
| Model | Basin | Basin weight | Relative size |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Dude | 24 in. | 35 lbs. | Most compact |
| The Urban Cowboy | 30 in. | 75 lbs. | Mid-size |
| The Wrangler | 36 in. | 130 lbs. | Large |
| The Ranch Boss | 42 in. | 220 lbs. | Largest |
The Dude uses a solid, seamless plate-steel basin without a welded seam running across the bowl. The steel surface naturally develops patina and may develop light surface rust with outdoor exposure.
Regularly remove cold ash and moisture from the basin. Use the included rain cover for storage only after the Cauldron has completely cooled. The rain cover is not heat-resistant and must never be placed over a hot or warm basin.
The Dude ships as a parcel directly to the delivery address provided during checkout. It does not require scheduled LTL freight delivery.
Cowboy Cauldron unconditionally warrants The Dude for one year from the original purchase date. Replacement parts are available through the manufacturer when needed.
Remove cold ash after use so moisture does not remain against the steel. Store the Cauldron under its included cover only after every component is completely cool. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning, conditioning, and long-term storage.
Patina and light surface rust are expected on untreated steel. Keeping the basin clean, dry, and covered between uses helps maintain its condition.
Radiant heat, sparks, and embers can affect combustible surfaces. Follow the owner’s instructions, use appropriate surface protection, and confirm that wood-burning fire pits are permitted by local regulations and property rules before use.

Yes. Wood can be burned directly in the basin. The included charcoal grate is installed when cooking with charcoal.
