Cowboy Cauldron · Made in Salt Lake City, Utah

The Wrangler — a 36-inch fire pit built around serious cooking space

The Wrangler expands Cowboy Cauldron's suspended-basin design into a 36-inch cooking and gathering platform. It provides more room for managing separate heat zones, feeding a wood fire, and cooking for a larger group without moving up to the 220-pound Ranch Boss.

The 130-pound seamless steel basin hangs from a single point beneath a 76-inch tripod. Raise or lower the basin to adjust its position, and use the three-piece hinged cooking grill to reach the fire without removing the entire cooking surface. The Wrangler works as a wood-burning fire pit, open-fire grill, or charcoal cooker.

Extended fulfillment: usually ships in 3–4 weeks. Freight transit time begins after shipment. The carrier will call to schedule a curbside delivery appointment after the order ships. Call 833-777-2962 if timing is critical.

Tool-free assembly, with a heavy basin

No bolts or permanent mounting hardware are required, but the 130-pound basin requires multiple people or suitable lifting equipment. Complete the setup on firm, level ground and keep the full tripod footprint clear.

  1. Position the tripodOpen the three legs to create an approximately 85-inch point-to-point footprint.
  2. Connect the suspensionSecure the chain at the tripod cap before lifting the basin into position.
  3. Hang and level the basinUse adequate help to place the basin on the hook, then verify stability before adding fuel.
  4. Install the cooking componentsAdd the charcoal grate and support when needed, then position the three hinged grill sections over the basin.
Single-point suspended design

One basin, several ways to manage the fire

Suspending the basin lets you change its height rather than treating the fire pit as a fixed bowl. The three-piece hinged grill keeps sections of the fuel bed accessible, which is useful when adding wood, shifting coals, or maintaining more than one temperature area across the 36-inch surface.

The basin is elevated, but radiant heat and embers still require proper clearance. Use a fire-resistant surface or pad where appropriate, keep the tripod stable, and follow the owner's manual and local fire requirements.

Three ways to use The Wrangler

Large wood fire

Use the 36-inch basin as an outdoor fire pit with room for a substantial fuel bed and seating around the tripod footprint.

Open-fire cooking

Cook over wood and coals while using the hinged grill sections to maintain access to the fire below.

Charcoal grilling

Install the included charcoal grate and support to create a raised coal bed for more controlled grilling.

The Wrangler offers considerably more cooking area than The Urban Cowboy but remains 90 pounds lighter than The Ranch Boss. It is best treated as a semi-permanent outdoor centerpiece that can be relocated with proper help.

Which Cowboy Cauldron fits your space

Choose by full tripod footprint and intended capacity, not basin diameter alone. The larger models require more clearance and more help during assembly or relocation.

Model Basin Weight Best for
The Dude® 24 in. 35 lbs. Small patios, travel, two to four people
The Urban Cowboy 30 in. 75 lbs. Home entertaining, three to six people
The Wrangler 36 in. 130 lbs. More cooking area, larger gatherings
The Ranch Boss 42 in. 220 lbs. Large spaces and high-capacity cooking

The Wrangler's tripod measures approximately 85 inches from point to point. Add the clearances required by the owner's manual and local fire rules before choosing the installation area.

Made in Salt Lake City from solid plate steel

The Wrangler is made in Salt Lake City, Utah with a seamless 7/32-inch plate-steel basin. Its frame is zinc-treated and powder coated for outdoor exposure, and its three-piece chromed cooking grill is reinforced with trusses to span the larger basin.

The exterior uses a high-temperature finish, while the interior is not powder coated. Heat discoloration and light interior surface rust are normal changes for solid steel. Routine cleaning, a compatible conditioner, and the included cover help manage weather exposure.

Freight delivery, explained before you buy

The Wrangler ships on a pallet by scheduled less-than-truckload freight after its extended fulfillment period.

  • The item usually ships in 3–4 weeks. This is an estimated fulfillment window, not a guaranteed shipment or delivery date.
  • The carrier will call the phone number on the order to arrange delivery.
  • Standard service is curbside. The driver is not required to move the cauldron into a home or backyard.
  • A full-size freight truck must be able to reach the address. Discuss access restrictions with the carrier before the appointment.
  • The tripod legs may arrive in a separate carton from the pallet. Confirm receipt of both pieces.
  • Inspect the shipment before signing. Record visible damage on the delivery receipt and photograph it.
  • Free shipping applies under Smokeforges' posted shipping policy.

Caring for the steel and hard cover

Allow the fire, embers, and steel to cool completely before cleaning. Tilt the basin on the hook and use a wire brush to remove cold ash and small coals. Never use the rain cover to extinguish a fire; it is not heat resistant.

Secure the hard cover only after the cauldron is cool to the touch. A slight basin angle helps water run off. Brush away light surface rust as needed and apply a conditioner approved for the product and cooking surfaces.

Common questions

Is The Wrangler smokeless?

No wood fire is entirely smokeless. The open basin design supports airflow, but smoke varies with fuel moisture, fire temperature, and wind. Use dry, seasoned wood and maintain an active fire instead of a smoldering fuel bed.

Can one person assemble it?

The tripod itself is straightforward to position, but the basin weighs 130 pounds. Use multiple people or suitable lifting equipment to hang, remove, or relocate it.

Can it stay outside?

It is designed for outdoor use. Keep the cooled unit covered, remove cold ash, prevent standing water, and maintain exposed steel as described in the owner's manual.

Can I cook with wood and charcoal?

Yes. The cooking grill can be used over a wood fire and coals. The included charcoal grate and support create a separate setup for charcoal grilling.

How much space does it require?

The tripod is approximately 85 inches wide from point to point. The final setup also needs safe clearance around and above the fire, so measure beyond the listed footprint.

What warranty applies?

Cowboy Cauldron states that all Cauldrons are unconditionally warranted for one year from the date of purchase. Warranty coverage and service are provided under the manufacturer's written warranty terms.

Plan the footprint and freight access first
