Cowboy Cauldron · Made in Salt Lake City, Utah

The Ranch Boss — the largest Cowboy Cauldron for fire and cooking

The Ranch Boss is the largest model in the Cowboy Cauldron range. Its 42-inch basin provides the most room for a large wood fire, multiple cooking zones, and group entertaining, while the single-point suspension preserves the adjustable design used across all four models.

The basin is made from 1/4-inch seamless plate steel and weighs 220 pounds. It hangs beneath a 76-inch tripod and uses a three-piece hinged cooking grill for access to the fuel bed. This is a substantial outdoor fixture intended for spaces that can accommodate an approximately 85-inch tripod footprint and planned freight delivery.

Extended fulfillment: usually ships in 3–4 weeks. Freight transit time begins after shipment. The carrier will call to schedule a curbside delivery appointment after the order ships. Call 833-777-2962 if timing is critical.

Tool-free assembly requires a lifting plan

The components fit together without bolts or permanent mounting, but a 220-pound basin should not be handled without multiple people or suitable lifting equipment. Choose the final location and delivery path before assembly.

  1. Prepare the locationUse firm, level ground with space for the approximately 85-inch tripod footprint and required fire clearances.
  2. Open the tripodPosition the three legs and verify that each foot is stable before attaching the basin.
  3. Connect and liftSecure the suspension chain, then use an appropriate team or lifting method to hang the 220-pound basin.
  4. Install the cooking componentsAdd the charcoal grate and support when needed, then set the three hinged grill sections across the basin.
Single-point suspended design

Manage a wide cooking surface without closing off the fire

The suspended basin can be raised or lowered instead of remaining fixed at one height. Across the 42-inch surface, the three hinged grill sections let you open one area to add wood or rearrange coals while other sections remain available for cooking.

The basin's position above the ground does not remove the need for fire-safe installation. Radiant heat, sparks, and embers require adequate clearance, a stable noncombustible base or appropriate barrier, and compliance with the owner's manual and local rules.

Three ways to use The Ranch Boss

Large gathering fire

The 42-inch basin accommodates a substantial wood fire for larger outdoor seating areas and open-air hospitality spaces.

Open-fire cooking

Use the broad cooking grill over wood and coals while keeping access to the fire through the hinged sections.

Charcoal zones

Use the charcoal grate and support to arrange a coal bed and create more than one heat area across the cooking surface.

At 220 pounds, The Ranch Boss is best treated as a planned outdoor installation rather than a regularly portable fire pit. It can be disassembled and moved, but relocation requires adequate help and equipment.

Which Cowboy Cauldron fits your space

The Ranch Boss has the largest basin and the highest weight in the range. Choose it when maximum cooking area matters and the site can support the footprint, clearances, and delivery requirements.

Model Basin Weight Best for
The Dude® 24 in. 35 lbs. Small patios, travel, two to four people
The Urban Cowboy 30 in. 75 lbs. Home entertaining, three to six people
The Wrangler 36 in. 130 lbs. More cooking area, larger gatherings
The Ranch Boss 42 in. 220 lbs. Large spaces and high-capacity cooking

The Ranch Boss and The Wrangler use the same approximate 85-inch tripod width, but The Ranch Boss adds six inches of basin diameter and 90 pounds of basin weight.

Made in Salt Lake City with a 1/4-inch steel basin

The Ranch Boss is made in Salt Lake City, Utah from seamless 1/4-inch plate steel. The frame is zinc-treated and powder coated for outdoor exposure. Its three-piece chromed cooking grill is reinforced with trusses to span the 42-inch basin.

The exterior uses a high-temperature finish, while the interior is not powder coated. Heat discoloration and light interior surface rust are expected changes with solid steel. Cleaning out cold ash, limiting standing water, and using the included cover help manage weather exposure.

Freight delivery, explained before you buy

The Ranch Boss ships on a pallet by scheduled less-than-truckload freight after its extended fulfillment period.

  • The item usually ships in 3–4 weeks. This is an estimated fulfillment window, not a guaranteed shipment or delivery date.
  • The carrier will call the phone number on the order to arrange delivery.
  • Standard service is curbside. The driver is not required to move the cauldron into a home or backyard.
  • A full-size freight truck must be able to reach the address. Discuss gates, private roads, or access restrictions before delivery.
  • The tripod legs may arrive in a separate carton from the pallet. Confirm receipt of both pieces.
  • Inspect the shipment before signing. Record visible damage on the delivery receipt and photograph it.
  • Free shipping applies under Smokeforges' posted shipping policy.

Caring for the steel and hard cover

Wait until the fire, embers, and steel are completely cold before cleaning. Tilt the basin on the suspension hook and brush out cold ash and small coals. The rain cover is not heat resistant and must never be used to extinguish a fire.

Secure the hard cover only after the basin is cool to the touch. Store the basin at a slight angle so water can run off. Light surface rust can be removed with a wire brush or steel wool before applying a compatible product conditioner.

Common questions

Is The Ranch Boss smokeless?

No wood-burning fire pit is completely smokeless. The design supports airflow, but smoke varies with the wood, moisture content, fire temperature, and wind. Dry, seasoned wood and an active fire help reduce smoldering.

Can one person assemble or move it?

No. The basin alone weighs 220 pounds. Use multiple capable people or suitable lifting equipment for delivery placement, assembly, removal, or relocation.

Can it remain outdoors year-round?

It is designed for outdoor use. Keep the fully cooled unit covered, remove cold ash, prevent standing water, and maintain exposed steel according to the owner's manual.

Can I cook with wood and charcoal?

Yes. The three-piece cooking grill can be used over wood and coals. The included charcoal grate and support provide a separate setup for charcoal cooking.

How much space does it require?

The tripod is approximately 85 inches wide from point to point. The installation also needs safe clearance around and above the fire, so allow more room than the listed footprint.

What warranty applies?

Cowboy Cauldron states that all Cauldrons are unconditionally warranted for one year from the date of purchase. Warranty coverage and service are provided under the manufacturer's written warranty terms.
